William Albert PAYNE

is Dean and Professor at the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources and Director of the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station at the University of Nevada, Reno, USA.

He holds a Ph.D. in soil science. Previously, he has served as the Director of the CGIAR Research Program on Drylands Systems, hosted by the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), based in Lebanon; and Assistant Director for Research of the N.E. Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture at Texas A&M University, USA. During his career as a plant physiologist and soil scientist, he has led several research projects related to combating desertification, land degradation and drought.
